Denim Wigs

denim, wire, styrofoam, approx. 12”x9"x7"

inkjet prints, 20x30", 2018

Hair is an integral part of black culture and identity, because it’s the most tangible and accessible, yet it has been policed and shamed throughout history. In an ideal future we are free and safe to express ourselves as individuals and have moved away from standardized Eurocentric beauty. These wigs propose an alternative to current synthetic hair options, which produce mindless amounts of plastic waste. They are made from old jeans that have been deconstructed and repurposed by hand.
